the opportunity to discover and explore different types of dance.
Combination classes may include the following: creative movement,
ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and gymnastics. For young dancers, a wide
variety of styles are used to allow students to explore and experience
the possibilities of movement. This variety also gives the teacher a
base to make the class stimulating.
Mommy & Me:Parents and tots enjoy an exercise/activity class together. This is a perfect class for children not ready to attend class independently of mom or dad. Together we enjoy playful songs, fun with props and tumbling. Dads are welcome too.
This class is for the youngest independent dancers. It incorporates creative movement, free expression-dance, merging through space, counting, locomotor study, floor patterns, and the use of props to enhance creativity. Tots are introduced to tumbling with the use of mats and a floor beam. Ballet and its basic terminology is taught. Tots+ are aslo introduced to tap.
Rockin' Tots & Tots+:
This portion of a class uses playful songs and fun with props. It will introduce movement to music to your child and is the precursor of ballet and tumbling. In this fun and energetic class, your child will develop a love of dance and movement along with balance, stretching and music appreciation.
Ballet/Pointe:Develop the fundamentals of dance through control, poise, precision, fluency and grace using the technique and style of ballet. With classical ballet barré, center work and progressions this class improves fundamentals including body alignment, vocabulary and correct positions of the legs, feet and arms. Ballet is the backbone to all dance disciplines. Students who are serious about improving as a dancer will find that ballet classes are an important part of their training. Ballet classes are offered at every level.
Pointe is an extension of ballet. It requires solid, consistent and current ballet training coupled with strength in the legs and the core of the dancer's body. Subject to pre-requisites.
Tap teaches an awareness of beat, timing and rhythm. It is a fun and exciting form of dance where the dancer is able to make different sounds using his/her feet. Students learn tap terminology as well as the execution of the terms to enable him/her to identify sound, count and movement.
Jazz encompasses basic warmups, flexibility exercises, isolations, progressions and combination movements in a variety of jazz forms, including lyrical jazz, "funky" jazz, musical show, etc. Students learn the basics of jazz movement ranging from single steps to advanced work executed in various ways-that is, with "power" or nonchalance, for effect.
Exploring aspects of space, time, shape, and movementdynamics are explored. Modern dancers favor a more relaxed free style of dancing.
Tumbling and Gymnastics for Dancers:
Tumbling is included in younger class combos - Gymnastics for dancers includes warmup, basic floor exercises involving the mat to increase strength and flexibility along with tricks to incorporate in routines for performance.
Exercise for "happy feet". Learn the basics steps of clog and get a stompin' good workout.
