Meet Our Summer Master Class Instructors

Alyssa Ness

Alyssa started her dance career in Minnesota, where she studied and competed in many styles of dance. She has appeared in music videos, dancewear catalogues, and dance magazines such as Dance Spirit and Inside Dance. Throughout the years, she has had the opportunity to perform with Tokyo the Company, the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Capezio’s 125th Anniversary Celebration hosted by Nigel Lythgoe, and with Disney. Alyssa was a past NYCDA National Senior Outstanding Dancer winner and a NYCDA College Scholarship Foundation recipient. Alyssa recently graduated magna cum laude from Marymount Manhattan College in NYC, receiving a BFA in dance and a minor in business management. During her time in the dance program at Marymount, she had the honor of performing works choreographed by Al Blackstone, Alexandra Damiani, Jae Man Joo, Keigwin + Company, Breton Tyner-Bryan, and many more. Alyssa currently resides in NYC dancing and performing, and loves teaching and choreographing whenever possible.

Rachel Doran

Rachel Doran is an influential member of the Minnesota dance community, and her eclectic style is influenced by her background as both a performer and a dance educator. With a BA in Secondary Education, Dance, and Spanish from the University of St. Thomas, Rachel is continuing her postgraduate work exploring dance education at all levels and ages, with the philosophy that with opportunity and intention, anyone can dance about anything. Through her work as the assistant coach of the Totino-Grace High School dance team, and as a nationwide instructor and choreographer with INNOVATE Dance, Rachel is passionate about serving the next generation of dancing artists. Rachel is co-director of Crash Dance Productions, a professional contemporary dance company, connecting movers and art makers throughout the Twin Cities.

Darrius Strong

DARRIUS STRONG is a Twin Cities based choreographer, dancer, and educator whose creative work has been chosen for the Walker Arts Center Choreographers Evening, Rhythmically Speaking, The American College Dance Festival, and was featured in the New Griots Festival at the Phoenix Theater, Minneapolis. Strong has created works for Threads Dance Project, Flying Foot Forum, Alternative Motion Projects, St. Olaf College, Macalester College, and Hamline University. In 2016 Strong was featured in an NYC Time Square Bill Board for American Standards. He also shared evenings of work titled Ipseity, Access Granted, and more recently was commissioned to create work for the 2017 Momentum New Works Dance series.

Strong developed his own dance company STRONGmovement in 2015. He is also a company member of Black Label Movement Dance Company. Additionally, Strong is a faculty member at St. Paul Conservatory Performing Arts High School, TU Dance Center, and Eleve Performing Arts Center where he focuses on teaching young dancers how to connect their identity to movement.

Lauren Kubitschek

Lauren Kubitschek has been instructing dance for 13 years, she enjoys working with preschoolers, adults and all ages in between. Growing up in Minnesota, Lauren danced for Dance Tech Studios, St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists and Twin Cities Dance Collaborative. She is trained in Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Modern Dance, she also has a passion for Yoga and Aerial Silks. For the past 5 years Lauren has been teaching dance abroad. She spent 2 years in Bangkok, Thailand teaching Jazz Funk and Contemporary.  For the past 3 years she has been the  Dance Program Coordinator  at  A MADEUS International School  (Vienna, Austria) . Lauren believes that dance is a gift and she loves to travel the World and share it with everyone she meets.
